Where this began

TresBizz grew out of fourteen years of trading in software. The operating system came out of that later, as the logical next step.

We have worked in the software reselling industry since 2012. Microsoft licences in every form, from single retail products to OLP and volume agreements, alongside antivirus and security software, Autodesk, Adobe, VMware and the long tail of line-of-business applications that every organisation has a few of. Thousands of transactions, hundreds of customers, and a close view of what really happens in this trade: how licensing models develop, how terms shift, and how an organisation grows step by step into choices that once seemed obvious.

That experience is why we look at this subject differently from a startup beginning at zero. We have seen the bill.

The question that kept coming back

Across all those years the same question kept returning, from customers and from ourselves. Why does the overwhelming majority of users run on one operating system? And does that user deserve more control than they get today: deciding for themselves when an update lands, knowing which data leaves the system, using hardware for longer than the supplier prescribes, and staying free to choose who maintains the system.

We asked that question for years. What held us back was the bar we set ourselves: an alternative complete enough to put an organisation on it with confidence. When that bar came within reach, we began.

A team that started in lockdown

During the COVID-19 lockdown we turned that consideration into work. Alongside the running operations of TresBizz a dedicated team was set up with one assignment: to establish whether a full operating system of our own was feasible, and to carry that research past the theory.

That has grown into a core activity. More than 75,000 man hours have gone into it so far. The result is an advanced proof of concept that actually runs, with an architecture built to be developed further. What that means in practice is on the status page: the system is 75 to 80 per cent complete, and what still has to come is named there in full. That distinction is the most important thing we have to offer at this stage: working code that carries the weight of a further layer.

From Dubai to Brussels

The project began with an office in Dubai. We then moved the centre of gravity to the European Union: TresBizz BV in Belgium, with a holding company in Estonia above it. Both sit within the Union. That structure will be completed over the coming period, which also explains why the Belgian company is younger than the project itself.

That choice is a matter of substance. An operating system that lays claim to European trust belongs in Europe: under European law, within the European compliance frameworks, with an ownership and control structure a buyer or an auditor can follow. Anyone building on this later wants to see who the owner is, which law applies and how the continuity of the project is secured.

That is why this page exists, and why we tell you about ourselves at length.

Who builds NEXZOS

The product is developed by a core team of nine developers and system architects, with around fifteen specialists brought in per subject, from packaging and drivers to accessibility and security. That is deliberately a small permanent core with a wide flexible ring: it keeps the architecture in one place and the specialist knowledge close to the problem.

Who you are dealing with

Continuity before you ask

We are a small supplier and you are buying something that has to last ten years, so continuity is a fair question and we treat it as one. Three answers, in the order a buyer wants them.

• Every step is a standalone assignment, so each time you are committed only to the step you are in.
• Source code escrow, an audit right and an exit arrangement can be arranged and are open for discussion per agreement. It is an offer to be arranged with the agreement, and we say so plainly.
• The architecture rests on a Linux foundation that your own administrators, or any supplier in Europe, can maintain with standard tooling.
